The Georgia Department of Labor and Whitfield/Murray Employer Committee will co-host an Employer in the Know business summit in Rome on May 20. Designed to help business owners and managers with compliance issues in the workplace, the event will be held in the Lakeview Auditorium on the Georgia Highlands College main campus off U.S. 27 south of Rome.
The summit will begin at 10 a.m. and run until 2 p.m. Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler will be among the presenters who will talk about federal policies and legislation that will help ensure that businesses are compliant with the myriad of labor laws and still be profitable in the future.
Commissioner Butler will also address a number of his own projects, which are designed to encourage job growth and economic development across the state.
Nancy Castor Sprattlin, an attorney with the Atlanta law firm of McFadden, White, Sprattlin and Davis, will office suggestions on how to avoid U.S. Department of Labor investigations and costly wage and hour litigation, as well as trending labor law issues.
Jill Smith, with the Georgia Department of Revenue in Atlanta, will offer a session on steps that businesses may take to ensure compliance with that department.
The deadline to pre-register for the summit is May 13. The pre-registration fee is $35 per person. If more than one person from an organization attends, the cost is $30 each. The cost at the door is $40 per person. The fee includes the cost of a lunch. Contact the GDOL’s Angela Royal at 404-273-0938 or e-mail at angela.royal@gdol.ga.gov.
