Larry and Gerri Morrow have revealed plans to retire and close their Pak Mail franchise at 2204 Shorter Ave. on May 29.
Larry Morrow said it was just time to retire. Both he and his wife are in their 60s and have plans to enjoy their retirement years. “I have golf clubs and I love to fish,” Larry Morris said.
Morrow is also retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad and said he has been blessed to have done well in his professional life and be in a position to retire.
The businessman said that when he acquired the Pak Mail franchise 21 years ago, the dynamics of shipping were completely different than they are today.
As part of corporate strategy, Pak Mail is putting more emphasis on light freight and Morrow does not have a loading dock to accommodate that type of shipping. “Parcel freight has been on the demise,” Morrow said. “You’ve got all these major companies that are shipping for free. This past Christmas I would say there weren’t 20 customers who packed gifts up to ship.”
