The Lady Hawks undefeated streak at the National Christian College Athletic Association National Championship continued today as Shorter women’s tennis won both matches today by a 5-0 final score. The Lady Hawks opened first day of pool play with a 5-0 win over the Northwestern and followed it up with a 5-0 win over Indiana Wesleyan.
The wins move Shorter to 18-5 on the year. While, Northwestern goes to 18-9 and Indiana Wesleyan falls to 22-7.
The Lady Hawks will wrap up pool play tomorrow morning as they take on McMurry at 9:30am.
In both matches Shorter jumped out to an early 3-0 lead by sweeping the doubles matches. Against Northwestern, Agne Brun and Ornella Frere topped Megan Johnson and Karen Moe 8-2. Samya El Hsissen and Aurore Beltrando defeated Rachel Bostrom and Brooke Lapinski 8-1. And, the team of Daniela Chipe and Sicquena Sinclair won their match 8-3.
While scores against Indiana Wesleyan were Brun/Frere 8-0 over Katie Wilson and Kim Mella. Beltrando/El Hsissen defeated Kelsey Vessels and Rachel Bottorf 9-7, and Chipe/Sinclair topped Diane Jones and Ellen Hornett 8-4.
To win the matches Shorter just needed two wins in singles, and that just what they did both times. In the first match of the day Beltrando earned one of the points, topping Bostrom (6-0, 6-0). And, Sinclair earned the match winner with a win over Tina Matetich (6-1, 6-1).
For the second match of the day, El Hsissen and Frere gave Shorter the win. El Hsissen topped Courtney Siepman (6-1, 6-0), and Frere defeated Wilson (6-1, 6-0).
