Softball: Lady Hawks earn automatic bid to NCAA regional

The season continues for the Shorter softball team as they received the Gulf South Conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA South Region tournament.

The Lady Hawks, who rank fourth in the NCAA South Region, will travel to Valdosta State for the South Region I Tournament Friday through Sunday.

Joining Shorter at Steel’s Diamond at Blazer Park will be No. 1 Valdosta State, No. 5 Alabama Huntsville and No. 8 Tuskegee University.

The South Region’s remaining qualifiers — No. 2 Rollins, No 3. North Alabama, No. 6 Florida Tech and No. 7 Tampa will play at North Alabama.

The champions from each site will then face off in a Super Region series on May 15-16.

The Lady Hawks will open this weekend against Alabama Huntsville in the first game of the tournament at 4:30 p.m. Friday afternoon and will be followed by Valdosta State and Tuskegee at 7 p.m.

Friday

Game 1: Shorter vs. Alabama Huntsville, 4:30 p.m.

Game 2: Valdosta State vs. Tuskegee, 7 p.m.

Saturday

Game 3: Winner of Game 1 vs. Winner of Game 2, 1:30 p.m.

Game 4: Loser of Game 1 vs. Loser of Game 2, 4 p.m.

Game 5: Winner of Game 4 vs. Loser of Game 3, 6:30 p.m.

Sunday

Game 6: Winner of Game 4 vs. Winner of Game 5, 1 p.m.

Game 7: If necessary, 3:30 p.m.
