Berry College’s baseball team split a conference baseball doubleheader at Birmingham-Southern on Saturday.
The Panthers captured Game 1, 6-2, while the Vikings prevailed in the nightcap, 2-0.
Berry is 13-10 and 5-3 in Southern Athletic Association play. The Panthers, ranked fifth in the D3baseball.com national poll, moved to 17-3 and 7-1 in the SAA.
In the second game, Berry got a complete-game shutout for Ryan O’Connell. He improved to 1-2 on the season after scattering 3 hits in the seven-inning game.
The Vikings had a total of 10 hits. Alfred Francis and McTier Mosley both had two hits.
In the first game, BSC’s Blake Stephens tossed a complete game gem to lead the Panthers. He struck out eight, allowed three hits and improved to 5-0 on the season.
Berry’s Ben Jernigan (4-2) started and took the loss. He gave up five earned runs and 12 hits.
Matt Brown went 3-5 with 2 RBI to lead the Panthers’ offense. Ryan Smith collected 2 of BC’s 3 hits.
The teams play the final game of the three-game series today.
