Chamber debuts new website for locals, outsiders

The Latest Local News from the Cedartown Standard

The Polk County Chamber of Commerce has put out a new website to help showcase what the friendly folks in this neck of the woods has to offer the rest of the world.

Chamber of Commerce executive director Tamaka Hudson said the updated PolkGeorgia.com offers something for everyone, whether it’s local residents looking for a calendar of upcoming events to executives looking to find a new home for their industry.

“We’re trying our best to make sure that we incorporate all those areas so it’s useful for those who live in the community,” she said. “But also for those who want to know more about our community from the outside.”

Hudson explained when visitors first come to the website, the front page give individuals an option on what they would like to explore about Polk County, dividing up areas of the redesigned website into specific zones for the various information being requested.

Splitting the information up into specific areas – like economic development or providing tourism information – makes finding facts and figures that much easier, Hudson said.

One of the most exciting new features of the website, Hudson said, is the community calendar. Local residents have the opportunity to get their events published on the calendar, with spelling and grammar edits made by the Chamber staff, and available to a wider audience. (See sidebar for instructions.)

Hudson explained all residents had to do was to visit Polkgeorgia.com, follow the instructions in the included sidebar for this story, and calendar events are checked for spelling and grammar before being posted.

“This gives another avenue of promotion for locals looking to get the word out about their events, and to the whole county,” she said.

The Chamber website redesign was slated to be released at the beginning of the year at the first Rise n’ Shine Breakfast for the organization, but Hudson said finishing touches were needed before the launch was completed.
