Running: 3rd annual No Excuses run set for April 18

The Latest Local News from the Rome News

The Rome Braves and R.A.C.E. Rome will host the third annual No Excuses 5K, 10K and health walk for April 18 at 8 a.m.

The race will begin at the Braves Miracle Field of Rome complex and ends with runners crossing home plate at State Mutual Stadium.

The race is in memory of local fitness and health trainer Scott Hines and will benefit the Braves Miracle Field of Rome.

Participants can register online at active.com or romebraves.com. Runners can also register at the State Mutual Stadium box office. Since the inaugural game at the Braves Miracle Field of Rome in April 2012, more than 350 players have suited up to play baseball at the specialized park.

Programming through a partnership with the Rome-Floyd County Parks and Recreation Authority allows for children and adults with mental and physical challenges to enjoy the game of baseball.

Since its opening, a spring and fall league has been introduced as well as a school league which allows students from local special education classes to take part in the game of baseball on a safe and secure field. The commitment extends to insure that no athlete is turned away due to financial constraints.

The No Excuses run is part of the R.A.C.E. Rome Super Set Challenge.

The Super Set Challenge is for athletes who participate in three or more R.A.C.E. Rome events.
