Roman Record focuses on downtown book dealer

The Latest Local News from the Rome News

Monday’s edition of Roman Record aims the Small Business Snapshot focus at Dogwood Books , 240 Broad St., in downtown Rome.

Ken Studdard has owned the business for eight years. Dogwood Books, which also carried a variety of antiques until the middle of 2014, features historic used books and a special vintage children’s books collection. Studdard said he fills a niche by offering a section for local authors as well.

“My hope is that you will find our shop an enjoyable place to spend time browsing,” Studdard said.

He has been a used bookseller for almost 17 years and a lifelong collector.

Five residential real estate transactions topped the $100,000 threshold in Floyd County last week. Check out the transfer section for a full listing of all real estate deals recorded in the Floyd County Superior Court last week.

The almost three-dozen building permits issued by the Rome-Floyd Building Inspection Department last week also are listed.

Also, Word on the Street features information about the upcoming auction of a historic home in Cedartown. Dempsey Auction Co. of Rome will conduct the live sale of an 1843 home that was part of the old Peek Plantation.

The house is owned by the family of former state senator John Phillips Pickett and includes a large tract of managed timber and Big Cedar Creek frontage.

The Georgia Department of Labor will be holding a couple of job fairs in Northwest Georgia this week. A recruitment for certified nursing assistants will be held in Cartersville Tuesday and a job fair to fill production jobs at the Roper plant in LaFayette is set for Friday in Summerville.

Roman Record includes a wealth of information each week from public sources. Data from mortgage lending rates to livestock futures, marriage licenses, police wreck and incident reports can all be found in the special section every Monday.
