The Latest Local News from the Rome News
We have received notification from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children that Floyd County E-911 has met all requirements set forth in NCMEC’s Missing Kids Readiness Project.
According to their webpage, ‘The Missing Kids Readiness Project promotes best practices for responding to calls of missing, abducted and sexually exploited children. Agencies will be recognized by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children® for meeting essential training and policy elements demonstrating preparedness for responding to a missing child incident.’
To achieve this recognition, all communications officers employed at Floyd County E-911 completed a five-hour course of study entitled “Telecommunications Best Practices for Missing and Abducted Children.”
All new employees must complete the course prior to one year of service. Floyd County E-911 Standard Operating Procedures were revised and updated to adhere to ANSI standards for Missing Kids policies. The head of the agency was required to attend two days of on-site training at NCMEC headquarters in Alexandria, VA. Finally a program of quality assurance was implemented to ensure that all calls of missing children receive an appropriate response in accordance with training and procedures.
We are only the third 911 Center in the State of Georgia to receive this recognition.
Floyd County E-911 is excited about this recognition, however the importance of this recognition is in our improved response to calls of missing and abducted children to assist law enforcement agencies in locating the child, apprehending any suspect(s), and increasing the likelihood of a positive outcome when a call of this nature is received by 911.
