MONDAY BASEBALL ROUNDUP: Piedmont doubles up on Cherokee County; Spring Garden splits

PIEDMONT – Payton Young went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, a run scored and three RBIs to lead the Piedmont Bulldogs to a 10-5 baseball victory over visiting Cherokee County on Monday.

Young also picked up the win on the mound for the Bulldogs after tossing five innings. He gave up four runs (two earned) on five hits with a walk.

Easton Kirk added a pair of hits and a RBI for Piedmont. Peyton Whitten had a double, a run and two RBIs. Hunter Jones had a hit and scored two runs. Bayley Blanchard singled, scored two runs and had a RBI. Taylor Hayes and Tyler Lusk had a hit and a run apiece. Lusk also had a RBI. Darnell Jackson scored a run.

Jaren Lockridge led the Warriors at the plate by going 3-for-3 with a home run and a pair of doubles. He also had two RBIs. Colin Edwards went 2-for-4 with run. Dalton Spears doubled. Caleb Ransum and Mason Rodgers both scored a run.

Riley Miller suffered the loss for the Warriors. He gave up six earned runs on six hits with six walks and seven strikeouts in over four innings of work.

The Warriors held a 4-3 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth inning when Piedmont exploded for seven runs to take a 10-4 advantage. The Warriors added a run in the seventh for the final.

Spring Garden 4, Coosa Christian 1

Donoho 7, Spring Garden 6

SPRING GARDEN – The Spring Garden Panthers split a baseball doubleheader on Monday at home. The Panthers took a 4-1 decision over Class 1A, Area 13 rival Coosa Christian but fell 7-6 to Donoho in the nightcap.

In the area win over Coosa Christian, Andrew McLarty tossed a complete game, allowing five hits with 14 strikeouts.

Austin Stordahl led the Panther offense by going 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs. McLarty was also 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Ben Ivey, Joe Rogers and Riley Austin all had singles.
