Two years’ worth of school calendars are up for approval during tonight’s Rome Board of Education meeting.
The board will caucus at 5 p.m. in the superintendent’s office and meet at 5:45 p.m. in the board room at the central office, 508 East Second St. Both meetings are open to the public.
School calendars for the 2015-2016 and the 2016-2017 school years are expected to be adopted.
“We decided to plan the calendars out two years in advance because the parents and the staff like to be able to look that far out,” said Mike Buck, superintendent.
Buck said the two years’ worth of calendars were well-received by the school system’s community advisory committee.
“This advance planning also just makes it easier on us, because we don’t have to do it as many times,” he said.
In other business, the board will hear a report on student achievement from the Phoenix Learning Center, presented by its principal, Jennifer Perkins.
Steve Atha, director of business and finance, will give the board an update on the status of education local option sales tax 4. ELOST revenues have exceeded estimates in the last two months, Buck said.
“I haven’t peeked at the results yet this month,” said Buck. “We will see at the meeting.”
Board members also will appoint a delegate and alternate to attend the Georgia School Board Association assembly in June in Savannah.
Student recognitions include the system’s spelling bee winner and runner-up and a state wrestling champion.
