Softball: Berry splits doubleheader

The Latest Local News from the Rome News



For the second straight day, Berry College and Birmingham-Southern College split a Southern Athletic Association doubleheader. Berry rallied to take Game 1, 3-2. BSC won Game 2, 3-0.


Both teams are 6-4 and 2-2 in the SAA.


The Vikings trailed 2-0 heading to the seventh inning in Game 1. However, the Vikings got doubles from Kenzie Fleming and Rachel Bartoe in the inning and scored three times to get the victory.


Freshman Kassie Howard (5-1) pitched the last 4 2-3 innings for the win. She allowed no runs, gave up three hits and struck out five.


In Game 2, BSC pitcher Brittany Fronk tossed a three-hit shutout en route to the win. She struck out six.


Kylie Aiken, Bartoe and Brooke Mackelburg had singles for Berry. Starting pitcher Kayla Davis dropped to 0-2 after taking the loss.


The Vikings begin their spring break games in Clermont, Florida, on Tuesday.
