Tennis: Shorter women sweep Lee

The Latest Local News from the Rome News



The Shorter women’s tennis team shut out Lee Wednesday afternoon, 9-0, to begin conference play.


Shorter (4-1, 1-0 GSC) took a 3-0 lead sweeping doubles play as each pair recorded the win.


Ornella Frere and Agnes Brun topped Tonya McGraner and Maclain Yowarsky (8-2).


Samya El Hssisen and Aurore Beltrando defeated Marta Garcia Nieto and Krista Good (8-2). Daniela Chipe and Siquena Sinclair earned the win 8-1 over Jodie Rice and Christy North.


The Lady Hawks sealed the victory by winning all six singles matchups.


Brun, playing at No. 1 for the first time this season, defeated McGraner (6-2, 6-1).


El Hsissen made her debut at No. 2 with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Garcia Nieto. Frere topped Yowarsky (6-4, 6-2), and Beltrando turned in the win over Good (6-1, 6-2). While Chipe (6-0, 6-3) and Sinclair (6-1, 6-0) earned wins over Rice and Morgan Friedlander, respectively.


Shorter plays this afternoon against West Florida at the Rome-Floyd Tennis Center at 2 p.m.
