Martin Allan and Patricia Beebe Hagerstrand celebrated their 50th anniversary renewing their vows and with a dinner reception hosted by their daughters, Judy Hamby and Jennifer Stone, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on April 25, 2015.
Pat and Allan met at West Rome High School with their first date at the senior Christmas dance, December 21, 1961. Allan says he knew Pat was the one when he saw her in that red dress and presented her with a glass ornament following the dance.
Pat was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts; Allan in Rome. Allan and Pat married on April 24, 1965 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. René Maynard officiating. With Allan already in the Air Force, they traveled the world for 20 years and treasured the birth of their daughters.
Returning to Rome, they both pursued college degrees at Berry, taught in the Floyd County Schools; Allan also at Georgia Highlands College. Retiring in recent years, they enjoy traveling and family gatherings at holidays.
The Hagerstrands say having a deep commitment to each other, loving their family including three grandchildren and placing their trust in God through their Roman Catholic Faith are the secrets to their successful marriage. And that red dress and glass ornament? They still have them.
