UPDATE: Police release name of cyclist found dead on Silver Comet Trail in Polk County

UPDATE:

Polk County Police have released the name of a Bethlehem Road man who was found dead on the Silver Comet Trail late this morning. 

According to Polk County Police Chief Kenny Dodd, a couple found Paul Odell McGee, 41, of 554 Bethlehem Road, Rockmart, was believed to have died of natural causes while riding his bicycle on the trail this morning. 

Dodd said McGee’s body was found within feet of his bicycle at the time the couple came upon him at 11:30 a.m. on the trail between Bethlehem Road and Sardis Road, not more than two miles from his residence. 

No foul play was suspected, but McGee’s body is being transported to the GBI crime lab for an autopsy.

Police are not yet releasing the name of a Rockmart-area man who was found dead on the Silver Comet Trail in the Fish Creek area of Polk County today, according to Polk County Police Chief Kenny Dodd. 

Dodd said the cyclist was found dead on the trail between Bethlehem and Sardis Roads in Polk County on the trail around 11:30 a.m. by a couple walking on the trail who then called 911 for assistance.

The body of the white male was being transported to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab for an autopsy to confirm cause of death. 

No foul play was suspected at this time, Dodd said. 

Pending notification of next of kin, Dodd said police are waiting to release the name of the deceased to the public.
