Cedar Valley Arts Festival opening early on Friday evening due to forecast, will keep to Saturday schedule

The Latest Local News from the Cedartown Standard

The Cedar Valley Arts Festival will open earlier than expected because of predictions of bad weather Saturday.

The festival, which will be held at Peek Park, will be opening on Friday evening a day early to give both vendors and lo-cal residents and extra day in case of a rainout on Saturday.

The gates will open from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, followed by the regular schedule on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Cedar Valley Arts Festival, the annual celebration of Cedartown arts, music and culture is organized by the Cedartown Junior Service League and is in its 51st year. A variety of family friendly entertainment, vendors and an art wall are just some of the many features of the annual event.

“We’re hoping that by opening up early, the community will be excited to come out and show their support of these fine vendors and we’ll be providing people something to do on Friday night in Cedartown,” said Amy Tillery, Cedar Valley Arts Festival registration chair.

Tillery said the entertainment schedule set for Saturday is still being worked out. More updates on the festival schedule are expected later today or Friday morning before its start.

Tillery said this is the first time she knew of the arts festival started early.

The National Weather Service forecast for the weekend currently calls for 80 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms on Saturday, with a high of 75. Sunday’s forecast calls for mostly sunny skies the next day.
