Mr. Adams


Mr. Horace C. Adams, age 92, of Morrow, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2015 in Stockbridge.


Mr. Adams was born in Rome, on Jan. 23, 1923 to Hoyt L. Adams and Lillian Cargal Adams.


He moved to Clayton County from the Big Texas Valley community of Rome, where he owned and operated Old South Vending Company. He was a founding father of both the Atlanta Youth Ranch and Community Bible Church of Stockbridge.


Mr. Adams was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II. Among his decorations were the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, American Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star and the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Glennis Smith Adams, on June 29, 2001, to whom he was married on March 21, 1942.


Mr. Adams is survived by two sons: Dr. Buford Adams and wife Babs, St. Augustine, Fla., and Mr. Gerry Adams and wife Donna, Stockbridge; a sister, Sarah Wood of Rome, and a brother, Frank Adams of Rome; six grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.


Funeral services were held Monday, March 30, 2015, at 2 p.m. in the Antioch Baptist Church, Rome, with Rev. Carl Green officiating. Interment with military honors followed in the Antioch Baptist Church cemetery.


Pallbearers included Beau Adams, Gene Adams, Jeff Adams, Patrick Adams, Chase Adams and Hunter Hutcheson.


The Alvis Miller and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


Mrs. Thorne


Mrs. Ruth Powell Thorne, age 72, of Rockmart, formerly of Bremen, passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2015.


She was born in Atlanta, on Dec. 14, 1942, the daughter of the late Fred Powell and the late Ruby Edwards Powell.


Mrs. Thorne was retired from Meggitt’s Rockmart plant.


Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one grandchild, Jacinda Cox.


Survivors include husband, Robert Thorne of Rockmart; three daughters and one son-in-law, Elaine Glass of Dickson, Tenn., Ann and Allen Johnson of Wedowee, Ala., and Lynn Wilson of Cartersville; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Don and Laura Wilson of Bremen, Kevin and Janice Wilson of Tallapoosa and Scott Wilson of Holcomb, Mo.; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Juanita Kelley and Virginia and Carl Ward all of Tallapoosa; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank and Evelyn Powell and Wilford and Pat Powell all of Tallapoosa; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.


Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 2 p.m. in Hutcheson’s Memorial Chapel with Rev. Larry Argo, Rev. Danny Mason and Rev. Mark Hanson officiating.


Interment followed in Welcome Baptist Church Cemetery, Bremen, with the following gentlemen having served as pallbearers: Don Wilson, Kevin Wilson, Scott Wilson, Allen Johnson, Chad Cox, Lee Wilson and Brett Moss.


The family received friends at the funeral home Friday evening, March 27, 2015.

Mrs. Bridges


Mrs. Pauline C. Bridges, 85, of Love Street, Cave Spring, died Wednesday morning, March 25, 2015, in a Rome hospital following a short illness.


Mrs. Bridges was born in Cherokee County, Ala., on July 14, 1929, daughter of the late William Edward Cromer and the late Rachel Rosa Mae Haggerty Cromer.


Mrs. Bridges was a member of the Benedict Baptist Church in Cedartown, and was retired from Integrated Products and Winthrop Manor.


Mrs. Bridges was married to the Rev. W. L. (Dub) Bridges on July 14, 1951 and was preceded in death by him on Nov. 22, 2012. Besides her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Bridges, on Sept. 8, 1994.


Survivors include her children, Mrs. Lisa McGee and her husband Louis of Armuchee, Dan Bridges and his wife Ginger of Cave Spring, Jim Bridges and his wife Kelly of Rome and daughter in law Mrs. Shelia Reeves and her husband Michael of Shannon. Seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and a brother, Lindsey Eugene Comer and his wife Dorothy of Piedmont also survive.


Funeral services for Mrs. Bridges were held Friday, March 29, 2015 at 3 p.m. at John House’s Cave Spring Chapel with Rev. Terry Sims officiating. Interment followed in the Bethel Cemetery in Forney, Ala.


Pallbearers included Larry Huckaby, Jim Bridges, Chandler Bridges, Brook Coogler, Stanley Thomas, Michael Reeves and Louis McGee.


The family received friends at the funeral home Friday prior to the funeral hour.


John House’s Cave Spring Chapel was in charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Pauline C. Bridges.


Mr. Coile


Mr. Robert L. Coile, 81, of Heather Circle, Cave Spring, died Monday morning, March 23, 2015 at his residence following an extended illness.


Mr. Coile was born in Athens on April 14, 1933, son of the late William Langston Coile and the late Lena Mae Huff Coile.


He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, and was a sales representative for the Nabisco Company for 33 years prior to his retirement. Mr. Coile was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cave Spring where he taught Sunday School and served as a deacon.


Mr. Coile had made his home in Cedartown for over 50 years prior to moving to Cave Spring 10 years ago.


While in Cedartown, Mr. Coile was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cedartown, was a member for over 50 years of the Caledonia Masonic Lodge #121, and was a member and past president of the Polk County Field Trial Association, where he also served as a judge on a national level.


Besides his parents, Mr. Coile was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Becky Hopkins; by a sister, Mrs. Judy Long, and by a grand-daughter Ms. Jenny Casey.


Survivors include his wife, the former Betty Jo Looney, to whom he was married June 1, 1952; by his children, Mrs. Beverly Ann Benefield and her husband Buddy of Cedartown, and Robert (Bobby) Coile and his wife Kelly of LaGrange; by a son in law, Ricky Hopkins of Watkinsville; and by a sister, Ms Donna Coile of Atlanta.


Five grandchildren, Becky Brewer, Joshua Casey, Ashley Hopkins, Rusty Estes and Sumer Coile, and seven great-grandchildren, Jacob Casey, Dalton Benefield, Bailey Benefield, Caiden Brewer, Jaylin Brewer, Anderson Estes and Daxton Estes also survive.


Memorial services for Mr. Coile were held Wednesday afternoon, March 25, 2015 at 2 p.m. at John House’s Cave Spring Chapel with Rev. Chris Johnson officiating.


The family received friends at the funeral home Wednesday prior to the funeral hour.

Mrs. Long


Mrs. Mamie L. Long, age 100, of Rome, passed away Monday, March 23, 2015 at her residence seven days before her 101st birthday.


She was born in Bartow County, on March 30, 1914 a daughter of the late Robert Lee Herod and Mary Colston Herod.


Mrs. Long had lived the greater part of her life in Rome, moving to Floyd County in 1939 from Bartow County. She was a member of the Oak Hill Church of Christ.


Mrs. Long was preceded in death by her husband, Howard M. Long on Feb. 8, 1983; by two daughters: Maxie Peacock and Barbara Busby; by four brothers: T.L., Charles, Ruben and Earl Herod; by three sisters: Ruth Charles, Faire McDonald and Lula Mae Ball; and by three grandchildren: Steve Bolt , Michael Bolt and Deborah Marshall.


Survivors include two daughters: Joyce Mossinger, Dawsonville, and Lucille Harrell, Rome; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren and a number of great great grandchildren


Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at 3 p.m. in the Oak Hill Church of Christ with Ministers Lucian Harris, David Newby and Sven Mossinger officiating. Interment followed in the East View Cemetery of Adairsville.


Pallbearers included: Adam Cook, Erick Mossinger, Hans Mossinger, Daniel Bolt, Justin Busby and Lonnie Bowman.

Ms. Warren


Ms. Denise McGatha Warren, 50, of Cave Spring, died Monday, March 23, 2015.


Ms. Warren was born in Cedartown, on June 4, 1964, a daughter of Clara Mae Shell McGatha and the late Oliver McGatha.


Ms. Warren was a homemaker, and had worked at Todd’s Country Kitchen in Cave Spring.


Besides her father, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard Beck and by a brother, Joey McGatha.


Survivors include two sons, William “Chunky” Beck and Jimmy Phillip Beck, both of Cedartown; her mother, Mrs. Clara Mae McGatha of Cedartown, step children, Mrs. Crystal Davis of Rome and Dorsey Warren, Jr. of Armuchee; six step grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren. Five sisters, Mrs. Faye Ledford of Cedartown, Mrs. Cindy Brown of Rockmart, Mrs. Gail Gable of Paulding County, Mrs. Clarice Welchel of Cedartown, and Ms. Lisa McGatha, and two brothers, Oliver Dale McGatha of Carrollton and Stephen McGatha of Cedartown, and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.


Funeral services for Ms. Warren were held Saturday, March 28, 2015, at 2 p.m. at John House’s Cave Spring Chapel with Rev. John Redding and Rev. Dorsey Warren officiating. Interment followed in the Valley View Baptist Church Cemetery in Cedartown.


Pallbearers included Steven McGatha, Chris McGatha, Barry Brown, Kyle Hooper, Josh Brown, and Justin Sumlin.


The family received friends at the funeral home Friday evening, March 27, 2015.

Mr. Landrum (Hulsey)


Mr. Ricky James Landrum (Hulsey), age 19, of Cedartown, passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2015.


Ricky was born on April 1, 1995 in Rome, the son of Anthony Hulsey and Tracy Landrum.


He had attended Cedartown High School and had worked for the Rome Plow Company in the welding department. Ricky was a member of the Friendly Baptist Church.


Ricky was preceded in death by his father, Anthony James Hulsey, his grandfather, Verdell Hulsey and step grandfather, Gene Steele.


Ricky is survived by his mother, Tracy Landrum; his brothers and sisters in law, Joseph and Lindsey Landrum, Joshua and Adelina Hulsey and Brandon Hulsey; his grandmothers, Janette Steele and Faye Hulsey; his grandfather, Frankie Landrum and nephews, Anthony Hulsey and Hudson Hulsey. A number of aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.


The Funeral Service for Ricky James Landrum (Hulsey) were conducted on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 2 p.m. from the Friendly Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Pruitt, Rev. Corey Smith and Rev. Randy Vines officiating.


Interment followed in the Northview Cemetery.


The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Cody Pruitt, Gatlin Pruitt, Derrick Hulsey, Dustin Merritt, Tracy Jarrett, Ricky Cook, John Redding and B.J. Ward.


The family received friends on the evening of Friday, March 27, 2015 at the Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home.

Mr. Lee


Mr. Barry Lee age 69, of Powder Springs, passed away Saturday March 21, 2015.


Mr. Lee was born in Rockmart on Feb. 17th, 1946, the son of Aubrey Monroe and Ruby White Lee.


He is survived by his wife of 39 years Donna Porter Lee, and daughter Jennifer Lee Stevens (Matt) of Downey, Calif., along with granddaughters Mikaela and Addison. Mr. Lee is also survived by sisters Sylvia Lee Whiteside (Jerry), Nancy Lee Roe (Ron) and brothers James Allen Lee (Floy) and predeceased brother Robert Edward Lee (Nadine) and numerous nieces and nephews.


Funeral Services were held Thursday, March 26, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Bellamy Chapel Powder Springs with Dr. George Pickle officiating. Interment followed at Powder Springs Cemetery.


The Family received visitors on the evening of Wednesday, March 25, 2015, and Thursday, March 26, 2015 prior to the funeral hour at Bellamy Funeral Home in Powder Springs.


Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mr. Borders


Mr. Bobby Edward Borders, age 79 of Rockmart, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2015.


Mr. Borders was born on April 10, 1935 in Rockmart, son of the late Ed Borders and the late Lora Horsley Borders.


He was a graduate of the Rockmart High School Class of 1953. Mr. Borders was a member of the Cedartown Church of God and served as a church clerk for 25 years.


Mr. Borders retired from the Lockheed-Martin Corporation with 37 years of service. He was an avid gardener and loved spending time with his family.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Horace Borders.


Survivors included his wife, Faye Smith Borders of Rockmart; daughter, Dondra Hansen Whigham and her husband Tim of Dallas, Ga.; son, Michael Edward Borders and his wife Mary of Kennesaw; six grandchildren, Ashley Preyer, Ryan Borders, Mallory Hansen, Sarah Hansen, John Whigham and T C Whigham; and six great-grandchildren, Matthew Preyer, Joshua Preyer, Clancy Preyer, Veronica Whigham, Ciara Whigham and Alivia Whigham also survived.


Funeral services for Mr. Borders were held on Monday, March 23, 2015 at 1 p.m. in the Cedartown Church of God with Rev. John Moates, Rev. Delton Harne and Rev. Wesley Forrister officiating.


Eulogies were given by the grandchildren, Ashley Preyer, Ryan Borders, Mallory Hansen, Sarah Hansen, John Whigham and T C Whigham. Interment services followed in the family lot of Rockmart Memorial Gardens.


The following grandchildren served as pallbearers: Ryan Borders, John Whigham, Ashley Preyer, Mallory Hansen, Sarah Hansen and Matthew Preyer.


Honorary pallbearers were members of the Rockmart High School Class of 1953.

Mr. Brantly


Mr. Bruce Lee Brantly, age 83, of Rockmart, passed away Friday, March 20, 2015 at his residence.


He was born in Atlanta on Dec. 21, 1931 a son of the late Howard Walter Brantly, Sr. and Emma Laura Ledbetter Brantly.


Mr. Brantly was an honor graduate of Bolton High School and he served in the U.S. Army Reserve for twelve years. Mr. Brantly had been a resident of Rockmart since 1968 moving here from Smyrna.


He had been a member of the Aragon United Methodist Church for 38 years. Mr. Brantly worked as a dispatcher for McLean Trucking Co. from 1956 to 1965.


In 1965 he began a twenty three year career with Lockheed-Martin Aircraft Corporation retiring in 1988. While at Lockheed he worked as a Shipping Supervisor and also worked on special projects.


His hobbies included gardening, hunting, fishing, coin collecting, gold prospecting and construction projects at his home.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Brantly on Feb. 25, 2013, by a daughter, Suzanne Brantly on March 31, 1965; by a sister Louise Chiselbrook and by a brother Howard Walter Brantly, Jr..


Survivors include a daughter, Amy Brantly Mixon, Rockmart; a son, Tim Brantly, Rockmart; five grandchildren: Stephanie Brantly, Brantly David Mixon, Ashley Toms, Alicia Brantly and Timothy Bruce Brantly; two great grandchildren: Alexis Defoor and Anslee Mullins; sister, Audrey Webb, Marietta and a number of nieces and nephews.


Funeral services were held Monday, March 23, 2015 at 2 p.m. in the Aragon United Methodist Church with Rev. James Hannah officiating. Eulogies were given by Jimmy Buchanan and Larry Maxwell.


Interment followed in Kennesaw Memorial Park in Marietta.


Pallbearers included: David Mixon, Howard Brantly, Steve Wilson, Larry Maxwell, Jimmy Buchanan and Lee Burch. Honorary pallbearer included: Ben Burch, David Webb, Tom Wilson, Mike Webb, Bobby Brantly, Ricky Brantly, Wayne Brantley and Carey Chiselbrook.

Mr. Jackson


Thank you God for the beautiful baby boy that you blessed the late William Jackson Sr. and Lillie Taylor Jackson with on July 22, 1942 in Clarksdale, Miss.


The name Herbert Lee Jackson was chosen and only you truly knew lord that he would play such an important role in the lives of others for many years to come .


Herbert Lee Jackson moved in the early 1960s from his hometown of Clarksdale and sought out to make a life for himself. He later settled in Fort Wayne,Indiana where… he established his roots and began to embark upon his life’s work as a devoted husband, father and all around family man.


In 1976 , he would become united in holy matrimony to his loving and devoted wife Mrs. Brenda Smith-Jackson and they would grow together in love and establish a well lived life together for over 39 years in marriage. Herbert and Brenda moved to Dallas, Ga. (Yorkville Community) in 1987 where he would utilize his God given abilities and talents to provide for his wife Brenda and their family.


He would soon build their dream home complete with its own garden where he would spend many hours perfecting his green thumb! Herbert worked as an excellent carpenter and “Jack” of all trades . Although he worked hard, making a name for himself in the world of carpentry and home improvement , he always made time for his wife and their ever-growing family!


He and Brenda loved to travel together and simply enjoyed each other’s company. They often took road trips visiting family and friends near and far and casinos here and there. In fact, whenever anyone would invite him to an event, he would be likely the first one to show up and the last to leave. He loved to host mini-family reunions, birthday parties and family barbecue’s and fish fry’s at the family home.


On Thursday March 19, 2015 at the age of 72, the Lord called Herbert Lee Jackson home from labor to receive his eternal reward.


Herbert Lee Jackson was proceeded in death by his father William Jackson Sr., mother Lillie Taylor Jackson , Step Mother Ethelene, his five brothers: William Jr., McKinley ( Uncle Mac), Hersey Jackson , Robert Jackson and Gene Jackson and one sister, Verdell Connor. Herbert leaves to cherish his memory, a loving and devoted wife in Brenda Smith-Jackson. He also leaves three sisters Lillian Jackson, Jo Ann Sneed and Verggie Smith. To continue his legacy he leaves three daughters and four sons: Deborah (Walt )Clinton, Anita (Ellis) Rush, Phyllis (Curtis) Jackson , Herbert Jackson Jr.(Angela), Jonn Jackson (Angie), Amel (Ebony) Jackson and Daveion Jackson.


He also leaves 17 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to cherish his memory.


Funeral services were held Thursday, March 26, 2015 at 12 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller and Son Funeral Home. Interment followed in Paulding Memorial Gardens.
