Detectives are still seeking suspects in the fatal shooting of Detavious Jamalcom Milner on Copeland Street earlier this week.
Although one suspect has been arrested, Rome police Capt. Mark Tison said they believe there were more people involved in the murder.
“We are still looking for additional suspects,” Tison said. “We’re not sure if there are two or three people, but we’re still looking.”
Joseph Hamilton Jackson, 28, of 2603 Callier Springs Road, was arrested Thursday and is charged in the murder. Jackson is accused of shooting Milner, 22, late Tuesday at 20 Copeland St.
He is also charged with violating his parole. According to the Georgia Department of Corrections, Jackson was released from prison in June 2014 and has convictions ranging from first-degree arson for attempting to set an Addington Road home on fire in 2011 to aggravated assault for attacking a man with a baseball bat in 2007.
Police say Jackson entered the home Tuesday about 11:10 p.m. and demanded cash from Milner. Jackson then fired a handgun at Milner, killing him.
According to earlier reports, police said at least two men intended to rob people at the Copeland Street home. Gunfire struck Milner and three others.
The gunshot victims were taken to Floyd Medical Center for treatment police said.
Police urge anyone with information about the homicide to call the Rome police crime line at 706-236-5000, the police station at 706-238-5111 or detective Chris Arrington directly at 706-238-5126. Callers can remain anonymous.
