School bus hit on Shorter; no serious injuries reported

The Latest Local News from the Rome News

A Rome City Schools bus carrying students was involved in a wreck on Shorter Avenue at Sycamore Street today around 4:15 p.m.

The bus was crossing Shorter Avenue from Sycamore Street. Somebody motioned the bus drive to come across and as the bus driver pulled out a black Toyota hit the bus, according to Rome police officer Coleman White.

White said the driver of the Toyota and school children were not injured.

“Initial reports said that they believe no one was seriously injured,” said Mike Buck, superintendent of Rome City Schools. “Of course, we have to be safe and the EMTs are checking every child.”

Buck said the system’s director of maintenance and transportation was on site.

“We are also attempting to contact the parents of every child that was on the bus,” Buck said.
