The Latest Local News from the Cedartown Standard

Junior and Senior 4-H’ers traveled to Rock Eagle 4-H Center in Eatonton Georgia to compete against over 800 other 4-H’ers from North Georgia, in our annual District Project Achievement Competition.

Seven of these 4-H’ers placed in their divisions:

Grace Prince, Fashion Review, first place

Shannon Williams, Family Resource Manage-ment, second place

Nolan Ensley, Wildlife, second place

Victoria Barrett, Vet Science, third place

Nytie Govern, crafts, third place

Dalton Ely, housing, equipment and environment, third place

Zoey Myrick will compete at State Competition in July in the Fashion Review Division.

4-H Project Achieve-ment is a cornerstone in the Georgia 4-H Program. From the first Boys Corn Club sharing their crop to today’s presentation and portfolio’s on hundreds of projects. Project Achievement serves to showcase 4-H’ers work and success.

4-H’ers can compete at District and State levels. Objectives are:

to acquire an understanding of subject matter in a given project area

to develop skills in researching, assembling and presenting information

to stimulate interest in continuing project work through 4-H experiences

to provide opportunities for 4-H members to develop and enhance qualities of integrity,

to help develop skills in leadership and communication

4-H’ers can chose a topic area to develop a speech and create posters to guide them, along with props through their presentations. Some topic examples are: History, Computers, Health, Food and Nutrition, Sports, Sciences, Wildlife, Money Management, Animals, Performing Arts and more.

Junior and Senior 4-H’ers prepare year round for their Project Achievement. They prepare a portfolio or record book of their project work, leadership, citizenship and community service activities that is completed and turned in near the end of December. That score is added to their final demonstration score at the final competition at Rock Eagle in March.
