Cedartown woman wins big on instant ticket

Lori Davidson of Cedartown has bought more than one “instant win” Georgia lottery ticket from the Madi Food Mart at 803 N. Main Street. As a matter of fact, on March 29, she bought three. The third one was definitely the charm — she hit the $200,000 top prize on a 15X The Money Exclusive,

Hannah Cornejo, an employee at Madi Food Mart, sold Davidson the ticket. On that Sunday, Davidson had been buying a ticket, scratching it off in the parking lot, and then coming back in to buy another. When she didn’t come back in after the third, Cornejo figured she had lost again. When she found out Davidson had won, “it was very exciting, especially because she gave me a nice tip [$100]),” Cornejo said.

Davidson, 53, claimed her prize March 30 at the Georgia Lottery District Office in Dalton.

She said when she saw the matching numbers, “I couldn’t believe it. I was shocked.”

The lucky winner drove to her brother’s house to share the good news.

“I was blaring the horn as I drove down the driveway, shouting, ‘I think I just won,’ ” she said. “It feels wonderful to know that I can pay off my bills and help my family.”

Davidson also anticipates taking her 12-year-old daughter shopping.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $16 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.7 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.3 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
