Parkinson’s Walk off for 2015, set to return next year

The Latest Local News from the Cedartown Standard

April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month, and normally Cedartown plays host to an annual walk at Peek Park to help raise money and educate the public about this devastating disease.

This year organizers are calling off the walk to make way for a bigger and better event in 2016.

Jennifer Hulsey began organizing the walk seven years ago when her husband, Johnny, was diagnosed with the disease.

Hulsey said the time she has devoted to her new role as a Polk County Commissioner since taking office in January, and the desire to put on a bigger and better event in 2016, led organizers to call off what would have been the 8th annual walk in mid-April.

Though there’s no event, that’s no reason for people to forget those who still suffer and are hoping to have a cure one day.

“Please remember that Parkinson’s disease is real, and that there’s still plenty you can do to help,” Hulsey said.
