Planning commission recommends approval to change of codes regarding special events, venues

The Latest Local News from the Rome News

The Rome-Floyd Planning Commission recommended approval Thursday of changes to the Unified Land Development Code regarding special events and special events venues.

After going through a review by city and county officials, the amendment was set and sent to the citizen board for a vote.

The revision would allow outdoor special events, as well as indoor and outdoor special event venues, in the community commercial zoning district without a special use permit.

It would change the ULDC so property owners would be required to obtain special use permits for indoor and outdoor special events venues, including wedding chapels, in agriculture-residential and suburban-residential zoning districts.

Most of the operations also would be allowed with a special use permit in community commercial and office industrial zoning districts.

The amendment will go to the Rome City Commission and Floyd County Commission for approval.

The City Commission will hold a public hearing on the change at its meeting on April 27. The County Commission will do the same at its meeting on April 28.
