Members of the Rome Police Department’s Selective Enforcement Unit were recognized this afternoon at a Governor’s Office of Highway Safety and Mothers Against Drunk Driving sponsored DUI enforcement awards banquet, held at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Ga.
Officers Aaron Thacker and David McGuire, members of the Rome Police Department’s DUI Task Force, were recognized as Bronze Pin recipients for their efforts in DUI enforcement and arrests for the year 2014.
The Rome Police Department was also recognized for its overall DUI enforcement efforts by receiving the DUI Heroes Award for a Category 4 sized agency. Category 4 is a police department with 51-100 officers.
This overall departmental award was due to the outstanding performance in DUI enforcement/arrests by both the Selective Enforcement Unit’s DUI Task Force as well as the Uniformed Patrol Division.
This annual awards banquet is a partnership between Mothers Against Drunk Driving and the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. The goal of this partnership is to be a voice for both the victim’s, as well as the survivors, that have been impacted by the preventable crimes of drunk and drugged driving. It is also an advocate for the loved one’s who have been left behind after such tragedies occur on our roadways.
The Rome Police Department is extremely proud of its affiliation with this partnership and will continue to strive towards outstanding performance in the areas of DUI enforcement and prevention, as well as to continue working towards the completion of the Selective Enforcement Unit’s goals and objectives.
